Theme - Sroter Panchali (Story of a rivlet) “Sroter Panchali†is the prelude of the story of a stream of both holy water that flew through the settlements of South pargana; a story of lost times when the myth of Behula-Lakhindar, Dakhin Roy and Banabibi was whispered in the air, those days people here of different caste spent their days in a simple way- as simple as water. The tale is told in every secluded corner of this vicinity; it is written as the ruins of a temple in the crematorium of Garia, which is said to be made by eminent businessman Chand Saodagar, who had a tussle with Goddess Manasa which is depicted in Manasa mangala, the myth that bring Behula with the dead body of her husband Lakhindar, in search of being alive again all the way down to Netidhopani of Sundarban. There is temple of Dakshin Roy the god of Tiger and after all myths of Goddess Banabibi the savoir of Sundarban. The river that took birth from the Jata of Mahadeva; the Ganges or Mandakini who was lead to Gangasagar by Bhagirath with blow of conch and so the downstream of Ganga is named Bhagirathi. The holy water of Ganga gives salvation to the 60000 sons of King Sagar who were cursed by Kapil Muni. Adi-Ganga, a rivulet from Bhagirathi, is flowing adjacent to Baishnabghata, where Chaitanyadeva help settling some of his disciples, the Baishanabs which derives the name of this settlement; Baishabghata Balak Samity takes the opportunity of Durgotsav to discover its own history. We still find the history it in the terracotta totems and primitive shaped horses that sacrificed in Olabibi temple of Baishabghata, and in old potters shop of Garia bazar behind the sparkling lights of Shopping mall and coffee shops. This Durga Puja, It is neither a reconstruction nor a repetition of history; but it is an abstract way of telling the story of a stream- the Sroter Panchali.
